A believer in the “policy, not politics” style of leadership, during his tenure as First Selectman, Eric worked in a bipartisan manner to accomplish much on behalf of town residents. He continues to do so as a member of the Board of Selectman (BOS).

I was deeply honored to serve as Simsbury’s First Selectman from 2017 – 2021. Under my leadership, we passed bipartisan budgets that invested in our town facilities, schools, seniors, veterans, social services, businesses, parks, open space, and trails. I was equally honored to have been elected in 2021 to serve on the Board of Selectmen, continuing my service to our town.

Now there is an opportunity to serve Simsbury at the state level, and I welcome your support as I seek to be your state representative. On these pages you will find information about my accomplishments and experience. You can also read my views on key issues, and how I would approach them as your state representative.

In addition to my experience serving on the Board of Selectmen, I am a professional business process improvement consultant. I assist organizations in making data-driven decisions to enable them to work smarter and more efficiently. I am passionate about bringing that same skillset to town and state government; your town leaders have an obligation to serve residents in the most cost-effective way possible. This business and government experience provides me with the background and expertise needed to take on the challenges of being Simsbury’s state representative.

Prior to my career in business, I hosted a talk radio show on the NPR affiliate in Cleveland. I spent 8 years asking tough questions and holding politicians accountable, skills I have used during my government career, and which I plan to continue to utilize on behalf of the citizens of Simsbury.

I grew up in New England and, at 17, met my wife, Rachel, a Simsbury native. I’ve had a strong connection to the town ever since our first Simsbury High homecoming dance. I subsequently received my bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University, and my MBA from Case Western Reserve University. When I received a job offer in the Hartford area, there was, of course, nowhere else Rachel and I wanted to live. We feel blessed to be part of this wonderful community - there is simply no better place to raise a family. We are happily settled in West Simsbury with our daughter and two adorable and voraciously hungry guinea pigs, Tanny and Sparky.

I am proud to endorse Eric Wellman in the race for the 16th House District. Eric will continue the fight on women’s health issues, environment and climate change initiatives, public safety measures, on public health policies, diversity and LGBTQ+ issues, and keeping taxes low. He is a social progressive and a fiscal conservative and will serve and represent Simsbury’s voters well in the State General Assembly. He is the ONLY officially endorsed Democrat running in Simsbury! I urge Simsbury Democrats to vote for Eric Wellman.

David M. Moore

Chair, Simsbury Democratic Town Committee (SDTC)

Eric knows and loves Simsbury, and has served the town well for years.  His  active role in addressing a multitude of important issues facing Simsbury made him an effective leader in the preservation of Meadowood and advocate for forward-thinking clean energy projects in town. Simsbury needs a  progressive state representative to tackle critical issues like climate change, sustainability, clean energy, and environmental protection. If you like what Eric has done for Simsbury, you will love the change and energy he will bring as your state representative.  I hope you will join me in supporting Selectman Eric Wellman to be our next state representative for Simsbury.

Past Chair, SDTCConnecticut Director, Acadia Center (Clean Energy non-profit)Member, Simsbury Clean Energy & Sustainability Committee

Having served on the Board of Selectmen with Eric I am glad he is running for State Rep for Simsbury. Eric demonstrated as First Selectmen an ability to both build consensus and research issues thoroughly; skills we need in our leaders. I especially appreciated his commitment to successfully launching the Town Manager form of government, his willingness to deal honestly with racism, producing fiscally responsible budgets, and being out front on acquiring new open space. Eric is an emotionally intelligent, well-centered leader who had developed credible relationships with all constituencies on both sides of the aisle. H no longer has to prove that he can be a good First Selectperson/ because he now is the benchmark for the role in the era of a Town Manager from of government. And finally, he reminds us that we can be an antidote to the divisiveness that we see national. I believe we see this in Eric in particular to his leadership as Simsbury has embraced conversation on race, prejudice, and inclusion.
